Coach's Report for Season 2016/17
Firstly a big thank-you to Grant Hillman for giving me the opportunity to coach the Berwick Springs Cricket Club. Season 2016-17 from a coaching perspective was successful without winning flags. Success can be seen in many ways, from my point of view we were able to play in finals with 5 of our 7 senior teams and all three of our U17 teams. Many clubs that we compete against would be enviable of our season.
Unfortunately we weren’t able to bring home any senior flags but we were able to at least be in a position to be vying for them. A lot of the success was achieved thru the hard and consistent work my assistant coach (Archit Vora) and our senior captains who were able relay skill sets required during our Tuesday and Thursday night training sessions. Their commitment to making every player achieve their very best from themselves ultimately led us to having a number of our senior teams playing in finals.
As a club our ability to blood our junior players into our senior ranks is second to none and I have had numerous positive comments from opposition clubs who are envious of our ability to do so and also retain them. A massive thank you to all our junior coaches and senior captains for giving our junior players the opportunity to achieve their very best both at junior and senior level. We aren’t just fortunate to be in a growth corridor with new families residing in the area but as a club we are very fortunate to have such committed parents who volunteer their time to make sure our junior players have an environment where they are able to achieve their very best.
As the senior coach my primary job is to make sure that every team that puts on the whites/creams for BSCC give themselves every opportunity to win a flag by putting themselves in the finals at the end of the home and away season. To achieve this I will be looking to make sure that our training levels and my teaching skills are relatable to the grades we have. The introduction of junior players into our senior ranks is of high importance, with hopefully the introduction of a 3rd turf team into the fold. The introduction of new players senior and junior is also of high importance with our brand as a club being the destination club in the area.
I am very fortunate to be involved in a club on the “UP”, but I am also very aware that playing numbers alone will not give us success on the field. Our pre-season training dates for our indoor sessions are locked in and practice matches (at least 2) to be finalised. I look forward to having another successful and enjoyable season with the “TITANS”; we have the right people in place on the field and behind the scenes and our ability to attract new players from the area into our club are second to none.
Once again a big thank you to all the players & supporters who made this season, an enjoyable one.
‘GO TITANS!!!!!’
Kindest regards,
Daniel Ferguson
